FARMING WITH HORSES, "AN OLD SKILL FOR A BETTER FUTURE"

Updated: Nov 21, 2018

When horses were created we believe that God had a plan in mind. Humanity has been using horses for centuries, as transportation vehicles, as helpers in the fields and farms, for recreational activities and most importantly they are companions and friends to humans.

Our fathers farmed with horses For centuries, farmers have used horses and, for the ones who loved to work with them, once the bound between horses and human was made , a true friendship would develop and, horses most of the time wanted to please their owner. When the tractors started to being introduced mainly in the 1950s most of the farming switched to technology and draft horses almost disappeared in some states. Only the horse lovers stayed with them for religious reasons like Plain people (Amish and Mennonites) or farmers in some remote places of south America and some farms in Europe. Farming with horses today Using horses today requires a strong will power to bring back to life some of the old skills, and understanding old and new equipment. Nowadays there is new horse draft farming equipment coming out every year. We can notice that there is a new enjoyment to work with horses. It feels right when we plow or make any chore, it is a blessing for farmers who are aware of their environment and concerned about the future of the land and planet; the idea is to leave a "clean" place for our children and grandchildren where the soil quality is being preserved for centuries to come. We believe we have a role and must follow this principle: Genesis 2 "God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it".

Farming with horses is good for the soil and nature around us. Hooves do not compact the soil as tractors do. Horses eat from the ground and fertilize the soil as you work. They need breaks as you go when you can enjoy the nature around you. Depending on what you are doing, you work harder, then when they rest, you can rest too. It is pleasant to work with animals.
